ANDREW KATZ OF KATZ ART HIP HOP PORTRAITS

Andrew Katz is a watercolorist, educator, and Hip-Hop head who weaves together his love of music, lyrical content, and unique approach to painting and design.  An accomplished painter and teacher, Katz was selected as the curator for www.publicenemy.com and enthusiastically seeks to preserve Hip-Hop culture through connecting current and classic Hip-Hop acts with visual elements from the genre.  By using his artwork as a ticket for adventure, Andrew has been able to cross paths with Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, De La Soul, Rakim, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, Cypress Hill, Phife, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, Monie Love, Doug E. Fresh, and the Beastie Boys.

Over the past several years, Katz has further honed his skills while paying tribute to some of the fallen musical heroes of Hip-Hop – J Dilla, Keith “Cowboy” Wiggins, and Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch.  Whether it’s skateboard design, organizing a Hip-Hop art show, or experimenting with new artistic trends and techniques, you can find Katz honoring and immortalizing the Hip Hop Gods.  An artistic risk-taker and archivist of the rap game, Andrew continues to build a library of images that will serve as a primer for those who want to celebrate music and its visual history.
